The bottom of the mirrors need to be cut back so it's flush with the black plastic. I used a Dremel with a cutting disk to remove the excess. |
| The mount on the Y2K Monster has an adapter that needs to be removed. Then I (err, Chris) installed an M8 helicoil. An M8 bolt holds the mirrors onto the mount. Be sure to check the bolt tension after long rides; they do like to slowly back out. I don't use Loctite because I need to be able to easily remove the mirrors for track days. |

Evaluation: I like the sportier appearance. The round mirrors stuck out kind of far and always made me think of ant antennas. Here's the problem for tall people: I have the mirrors tilted upward as much as possible and the position is ideal for me (I'm 5' 7"). Chris is 6' 3" and he gets to stare at the ground when he rides the Monster. However, you can loosen the mounts and rotate the levers down a bit so the mirrors point more skyward. I didn't do this because the clutch and brake lever would've been rotated too far down; the added reach would've been difficult for my not-so-long fingers. Final Note: The reason the Napolean Barens aren't on the bar end is because I'm a lane splitter and every inch saved in total width is very meaningful. My 900SS has them on the bar ends and I've managed to clip a car or two. The resultant sound is an eye-bugging "THWACK!" |
