Update: Cracker might have a home, but it's not final yet. If you're still interested in "The Cracks," please drop me a line and I'll keep you posted on her availability. Name: Cracker Breed: Mixed, probably mostly shepherd Color: All white Weight: 60 pounds Birthdate: 3/96 Spayed: Yes Shots: Rabies license good through 8/11/02. Has all other standard shots. Health: Completely healthy. She even got her teeth cleaned by the vet a few months ago. She is a good dog for a runner as she never lags and doesn't stop every few feet to try to take a whiz. Protectiveness: Cracker is a wonderful family dog. She is protective of the ones she loves. However, don't mistake this as being hostile to strangers. Although suspicious of strangers, once introduced she will totally accept them as friends. Cracker only barks when she finds something threatening or is forced to watch a dog go by her property. Socialness: Although we have another dog that she loves, Cracker does not like dogs she doesn't know. If you have a dog, we can try introducing them, but don't expect success. Cracker loves cats -- loves to chase them, that is. If you have cats or other small pets, she is not a good candidate for you. Because she loves people, she should not be kept exclusively outside. Obedience: Cracker is an obedient dog. We've trained her to sit, stay, and come. If you leave the door open, she will not bolt. We haven't trained her to heel or do anything advanced, but we still consider her very obedient. Cracker is house-broken, does not jump on people, and is not allowed on the furniture. Biggest quirk: She's a fence jumper. If you have a low fence, she can jump it and roam the neighborhood. She only likes to escape when she's left alone for the day. If you're around, she doesn't feel compelled to "travel." In all the times she's gotten out, she has never caused a disturbance in the neighborhood (i.e., she doesn't attack people). She can be kept indoors since she lounges around most of the day, but she will expect a daily walk or run. Cost: $25 unless we know you. The small fee is merely a "show of faith" charge, that you're not just taking this dog because you want a free punching bag. If she's so perfect, why are we giving her up? My husband and I will be away from home more frequently in the foreseeable future. We don't like the idea of forcing our dogs to be alone for days at a time while we're gone. If we keep one dog, we can travel with him. Two dogs is a greater logistical problem for us. We want Cracker to have a good home where she won't be "abandoned" for days at a time. By virtue of the fact that Lucky has been with us for 8 years, we're opting to keep him over Cracker. Cracker is good-natured and will adapt. Lucky is neurotic and a change in family setting is likely to undo all the work I've done on him to stop being neurotic. Email me at [email protected]. |
